Medicare may not pay for caregiving at home, but Medicare’s new caregiver webpage, at www.medicare.gov/caregivers, will make it easier to find out what the agency does and doesn’t pay for.  The new pages offer links for help with billing, navigating Medicare, finding financial and local support, options for care and questions for caregivers.

The Hospice Payment System Fact Sheet, which offers providers information about the Medicare hospice benefit, is now available from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services Medicare Learning Network in downloadable format at http://www.cms.hhs.gov/MLNProducts/downloads/hospice_pay_sys_fs.pdf.

     "I was truly pleased with the amount of conversation that took place in my third volunteer visit.  We talked for an hour on topics such as baseballs, planes, and flying.  He talked about his belief in God, and we listened to gospel music on the radio."

     These words reflect the thoughts of a Samford nursing student after a visit to a hospice care patient.

A golf tournament July 14 at River Oaks Golf Plantation on raised about $7,000 to help fight Alzheimer's and provide financial assistance to those affected by the disease in Georgetown and Horry counties.

"There are currently 70,000 people living with Alzheimer's in South Carolina and about 5.1 million nationwide. An event like this is a very special moment when you see so many caring people turn out for such a worthy cause," said Ashton Baker, director of development for the Alzheimer's Association of S.C.
